We also had a small tub, toothpick, piece of cardboard (about 3" square).

First, open the ornament and pour in a good amount of the floor liquid. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high but I truly feel that this book, this labor of love, this God inspired word for children is supposed to be out there. It might take more time - I'm sure it will in fact. It's going to happen and I'm very excited about it. I've gotten some very positive feedback from former school teachers and others which has really helped me stay positive regarding the future of my book. Wish me luck and I'll keep posting about my journey from little Midwest mom with a dream to author!! The pink one with the squares was a gift for my neice Emma's 6th birthday. The other is also a gift. I was just trying out a new pattern for Emma's and then for the other I used a sweet roll which is strips of coordinating fabric that are 1 1/2 inches wide.Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-20256958623776100582009-08-04T18:04:00.001-07:002009-08-04T18:05:53.880-07:00Lots of new art project up on Etsy StoreThere are lots of new art projects I just listed on Etsy including a rose shadow box, a garden themed shadow box (well actually two) and more. I was having trouble getting people to the website - it kept crashing a few people's computer and it only happened after getting the last template I was using...I hope this works better. Don't you love it.

Well...I don't have much time to spare these days but I'm trying to get some new items up on my Etsy store so look for new things to come soon.

I'm putting my Grommet Grab Bag purse on Etsy as soon as I'm done with this post. I've listed pictures of it before on here, but here's the pictures again as a reminder. It's a beautiful yellow, brown and green bag in a floral and leaf print. I used Hoffman Fabrics line called Reflections. I just love this collection. I will continue to put things up as I'm on vacation the rest of this week but I'm not leaving until Thursday night. Do an advanced search and on the right side you will see a Search by member choice. Search my ebay member name which is craftpinkmom. You will then see a list of all items I am currently listing. I also still have items listed on Etsy.

I just read a great article in Quilter's Home - my favorite quilting mag by Mark Lipinski (who I met at the Quilt Market - he's great!!!) - on selling on Etsy.com. Many people have had great success, but I did find they said it took a while to get going. Many waited 6 months for one sale - but after a year or so they were selling weekly. Hmmm...I've sold a few items so I'm going to keep it up and see how it goes.

So I just got a ring at the door and it was two nice ladies from the Jehovah's Witnesses. ARH!!! They were so nice to talk about prayer and helping others. I just said we go to church and pray and they read a Bible verse and then went away, but said they's be back some day. Great. Some religions scare me with their do-good attitude but they have some scarily beliefs.

Well enough of my ramblings - check out my listings. Here are some pics of what is listed on eBay.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaLMGNauOrObxVjMxwgD2xFBz-UYw7c11Uoa-i-gEjKRtvwwMKOn-T0qz_QqVXx1AV-MtbCxrW-lKvm90XOxPHGZ0MIN42I9zSILBRAg4YrVckA7c-HV3el4aAlMvAYJi3p4H5Dzsn8vBF/s400/IMG_0324.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361312816005234706" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQVD9Wez5wO-8eSZq5ydlRIEt1rXJR-x4U_VHraw8RdT2CYTDyW2ZF6YVGD0cLJ7mH8u2cp5iP40J62MaiI4Y7H_mRIBTQ3Jy59Nx38TPYiFWhgQa2EGfAiWuN_Wjh2r-xxMNCgPGEMHXf/s400/IMG_0322.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361312810017413570" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE1apTvYJVO5uorXeNBuog6oyGz9BvnDcqExzH90j6UcYwDrYS3AZJKeg1mUMvtIP6yuusApCGKbwwVWUi37qZKnJHCBvSnJQkFmtVMwIY-MUq_LLhzBWA7hzRQd7aQIh2Lum-IMLzzSEo/s400/IMG_0316.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361312800078479042" />Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-80823565102429444202009-07-09T17:31:00.000-07:002009-07-09T17:50:56.579-07:00Great Place to Find Fabric OnlineI'm always on the lookout for places to find Amy Butler fabrics for purchase wether it's online or in person. As you all know my favorite designer of fabric is Amy Butler. She's not only a great designer but a wonderful person. Well, one our my followers just happens to have an online store that sells among other things, some Amy fabric and patterns - Glenna with Your Fabric Place. Her website is http://www.yourfabricplace.com. She is carrying a couple of Amy's new patterns that I'd like to try out - The new mini dress & top and the field bag. Both look cute. I have to admit that I find Amy's patterns a bit complicated and at times difficult for a beginner. I consider myself a beginner but I also grew up around sewing my whole life so I think some just soaked in. I've never been stuck or not able to complete one of her patterns, but they aren't sew easy either. I've made a few of her patterns - the half circle tank (which I wear all the time), the Cabo halter (which I never wear because the dip in the middle shows the bra - it needs a touch up) and the cute dress with caps sleeves (which i'm too fat for right now, but maybe I'll fix back in soon).

I've used her fabric to make my Audrey's dress shown in a previous post while standing next to Amy at the Quilt Market. You would think living in Kansas City - a big major city - I could find Amy fabric everywhere but I can't. There are two stores I know of that carry it and both never have the coordinates I want. They sell out too fast or don't have the ones I want. Bummer! Hence why I'm always looking online! Between the 10/yard price and shipping charges, it can get out of hand. Most of Glenna's fabrics 8.50/yard with 5$ shipping no matter how much you order! Sounds pretty good to me. She also carrys a little Anna Marie Horner which I love too. Plus she carries patterns by Amy Butler and my absolute favorite patterns - INDYGO JUNCTION OF COURSE!!!!! :)

I'm working on items for a show I want to be in for the Art Flea Market in the Crossroads Art District here is downtown Kansas City. I'll try to post some of my works soon plus I finally got my skinny fat book swap done and back. Will post on that later.

Finally, we sure to check out the new blog for The Vintage Workshop. Until next time...Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-88182477855661449892009-06-27T07:47:00.000-07:002009-06-27T07:58:25.010-07:00Vintage Sewing Notions ShadowboxHello all. So I just launched the Vintage Workshop blog for my work. It's got a picture of me and Amy, my boss on the new entry. It's a great place to visit for project ideas and new techniques for creating great craft projects. The website is blog.thevintageworkshop.com

Also, I just listed my newest project on Etsy.com. It's a vintage sewing notions shadowbox. I used actual vintage sewing notions and a beautiful cherrywood finish wooden frame that be stood up or hung on the wall. Check it out.

So the heat wave sweeping our area has keep us all inside for days. The weekend we'd hoped to again to go the lake, but with my husband having to work today coupled with the heat - we decided the best thing to do was to stay home. Bummer. This give me the chance to do some more art work.

I currently am working on a wall hanging for church and another altered art wall hanging out of a leatherette bound western set of Time Life books. I don't like the western themes so I'm turning one of the covers into a wall art piece with a floral theme instead. I hope it turns out okay. This one is just a test case. I have like a set of eight books I got a garage sale. I'll take some process pics of this one to see what new things I can do with this.

Til Next time...CherylCheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-91547606613681799722009-06-21T17:58:00.000-07:002009-06-21T18:11:31.697-07:00Leave it to Mom...and on Father's Day no less.So my mother has reminded me that it's been a while since my last post. I know, I know...but when you get creative, you get busy. I've been working on my swap for my ABC Yahoo group. It was for our 6th Anniversary and I had to make 25 pages. I struggled with it and then lost some of my prepared images. Needless to say I cut it to the last minute, but finally they are done. They will go in the mail tomorrow. I don't have pics today, but do have a few others things to share.

I did also finish my new Vintage Sewing Notions shadowbox that will be for sale on Etsy soon. I want to take better pics before listing so...Here's a preview.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6FbNOwPhg1aoIzTCPaz5f1uZ0kN6ZzJdAdRQflIXz9gYJyF3VqONdy8yjTfr5FsIpmdUG1P44XSRItdx05m9uacKZnRqvNggqyqOWupb38S1ljHuK7oSgnvvg98iVvdEVuBubDIvNk8Yc/s400/IMG_0299.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349951047253830674" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGbvP5iQRrZN7gJx89LnKPvwOlxzg0JsdzZYT6r1z1U4Je0txQNDyobZ5e-E9JEBhC_KTNdCSYxo-xVzS4INg7Exus-1IZZo6nJNhehIPHgANLXUskh2C_be0P4uhA_ybo0ymUHFyjUNiM/s400/IMG_0298.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349951039750720802" />

Next, I started work on a labor of love for my church - Living Water Christian Church - click here to visit the website!!! I'm quilting it by hand so it will take a little longer, but I felt like God wanted me to share something special that I love to do and that is my passion (handwork, crosses, sewing - these are my passions) and do something good for Him. So here again is a sneak peek.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbpEXkIQ85eX3Du1Si5faDJsyBlyqIh2PgWZZDDVv-DnBgMoz63A6TdIBra8uGzmmwB63X-xeoHgs-IxafNwZ7rQ56csFAgtCjoEE5OQZFs_VGqu8ZiaxG7l_wqH43doALEi5QrIHJZZhF/s400/IMG_0301.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349951995331035634" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAryQzdewL6N6Uuol4rhv6P-6cj2L0UkMEP1F7GKePA2ACtfwrCQ63SLgcH9N3sU9DFWfd3mXNihG26zI7g7jnneiLCbPTz2SnZpc4knS4tEGwOeLliTbXYneuzXEjmCOLwMiqn7gpM66E/s400/IMG_0300.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349951989855301810" />

So...Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. My husband had fun today just hanging around the house and doing a little shopping at Old Navy - 1/2 off all men's clothes. Plus he got Chickenfoot tickets...if you don't know who they are - it's a band - google it!!! I wanted to say a little something about my Dad. At church today we were asked what we inherited from our Dad. I thought about it a bit but I guess what I got from my Dad was to work hard, take care of your family, sacrifice, but most of all - show them you love them - kiss, hug, tell them you love them. My Dad isn't afraid to show or tell me or my sister he loves us. I see lots of other men who don't do that and it's a shame. I'm so glad that Clay - my husband - does this with our son. He didn't have this growing up and he does it because of this and because I told him how much this meant to me. :) It makes me happy.

I will always know that my son might not grow up knowing what it's like to have everything he wants, but he'll know he's loved. This is exactly how I feel about my parents. I know I was and AM loved.

Later!!!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-89636840230388969972009-05-30T12:52:00.000-07:002009-05-30T12:53:04.843-07:00Always a day late and a dollar short...So Fashion Fridays might have to become Super Saturday because I get too busy on Fridays. My boss took me to a wonderful art fair last night in the old Prairie Village shopping area of Prairie Village, KS. Loved the art and especially the two dress shops we visited there, but really 79 dollars for a tank top!!! OMG, I also had a heart attack and didn't want to touch anything! I did LOVE some of the dresses and especially a little crocheted shrug (that was 59$ - I almost had a moment of weakness, but Clay - my husband - called just at that moment - wake up call!!!). I saw lots of art, jewelry and glass pieces I would love to have, but money's too tight. We are trying to buy a house so no crazy purchases. I'm off to garage sale it, but wanted to share another great fabric find from the first season of Project Runway winner, Jay McCarroll. I got to meet him in Houston at the Quilt Market Fall 2008. He's so nice and wonderful. I'd love to see him again and get some of his fabrics used in our patterns, but I might be a lone wolf on this one. Beware - they are different, but I LOVE his first line of fabrics. Here is just a sample:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgsATSfc5JQhjDTRsTkEOQAchtIL2bN0AeFI2oER-500XtuPJ9yOk1-VYaKC6iH0m2piMlLjtHhcvN4CR0b4b71VTUKQFk6JLdSygQkTvBFm_N1BRqRNcqpR613dDOTUxoph6XNBMaDIJn/s400/jaycarroll.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341622638391395138" />

Click here to view his line at eQuilter.com.

I'll post pictures after my garage saleing if I find anything good. I'm hoping for storage drawers for my new sewing area. Clay built me shelves while I was in Pittsburgh for a Mother's Day gift. I love them. It gives me room to display my fabrics and baskets of patterns. Now how to organize the rest of the fabric and all the art supplies.

Hope I find some good stuff! Until later...Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-49321267741867202522009-05-25T08:43:00.000-07:002009-05-25T09:16:46.437-07:00My First ATC SwapI wanted to comment on my very first ATC - or Artist Trading Cards - swap. For those of you that might not know, an ATC card is the size of a playing card and is basically just what it says an artist's card - so a small piece of art that is usually centered around a theme/swap and is traded like a baseball card.

My very first swap was called Anything But Paper swap. It was harder than I thought it would be. I think because there was no specific theme, like usual I had too hard a time narrowing down what I wanted to do. I did a couple of samples first and nothing was working for me. Finally I decided to use a technique I learned at The Vintage Workshop and created a mini-fabric postcard. I used some scraps of my favorite fabric from Amy Butler and then sewed it together with a strip of white muslin in the middle. Then I stamped the word inspire on the white strip. I got lots of compliments on my card and praise for it being my first cards ever! I was so nervous that I would be giving someone that card that they would look at and say...this is why I don't do swaps...I work so hard and just get junk back. I loved it but would others. I was great to get a positive response. Thanks Ladies!! Here is a picture of the beautiful cards I received. The materials range from metal, fabric, charms, shrink wrap, etc. I just love my first group.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVGDsG6mUvSuyLJ4UHX0ngCJ7B4n0xcxc32T5Tyk4PzZ4w_v9a_OE25bPVULolZwQN6A7VTxSZ7JWMVO45aAeg6WMMtu04AXXgobTJmy_vxFfp5t5iV3XCi5tZutu75vA00mSm4XYhNHFj/s400/swap509.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339791290850144034" />

I've joined a new swap from my Altered Book Club Yahoo Group. It is for the 6th anniversary of the group and it's called a skinny fat book. The pages have to be 3" x 6" leaving an unembellished area on the side for binding. I plan on binding mine with jump rings. I have to make 25 pages all the same and send them to the host. Then I will get 24 pages back (one is for myself). The theme is supposed to be ABC Anniversary or something closely related. The traditional anniversary theme is candy while modern is iron. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet. I'm probably make a prototype as usual and go from there. I love the anniversary idea and I'm leaning towards the candy theme too. Hmm..let's see what happens.

Happy Memorial Day to all. Bring the troops home!!! We love and miss every single service person and want them to be home with their families.Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-2095016910284049282009-05-22T15:08:00.000-07:002009-05-22T15:33:19.022-07:00Final Pictures from Quilt MarketSo I've finally found some time to post the last of my pictures from Quilt Market and you will finally see a picture of me. My favorite fabric designer, Amy Butler, asked me...yes little ole me..to take a picture with her because I was wearing one of my favorite new dress patterns from Indygo Junction - Audrey's Dress - in her fabric. I couldn't believe it!! She's like fabric royalty!! I loved it to say the least. I've also posted below my favorite new fabric sample for Fashion Friday!! It's from a newer fabric company called Art Gallery Fabrics. Check them out...they are fab!!! Some of the pictures are of quilts, some are samples I made for the show, some are of Amy Butler's booth at the show, and the rest are things I purchased - mostly for my mom!! Enjoy!!

This is the Art Gallery Fabric sample.
<img style="display:block; I love the art quilts. I can't believe some of these are actually sewn fabric and not paintings. The photos do NOT do most of these justice - the amount of stitching and work that went into them is amazing! Please post comments. I'll be having a market special giveaway next week. I haven't decided what item to giveaway from Market, but keep you eyes peeled for an announcement coming soon.

Later!! Have a great Memorial Weekend!!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-71874270523640352972009-05-17T04:10:00.000-07:002009-05-17T04:25:39.037-07:00More Quilts from the ShowI have more quilts to post from the show. I apologize that again my camera phone doesn't do them justice. They are all beautiful. I'll try to get more today as today is the last day of the show and let me tell you I'm done!!! Long hours, puffy eyes, sore feet and I still haven't really gotten to take anytime to look around at the booths. I've said hi to Amy Butler, my favorite fashion designer; I got to meet Jennifer Paganelli, of Sis Boom (check out her website)- she's also a fabric designer and I won an adorable little doll on her blog; and lastly I did visit the booth of Susan Christie, a vintage jewelry & sewing notions dealer. Her stuff is amazing. I can't afford most of it, but I love to look and dream. :) So here you go...

<img style="display:block; These are my favorite pics for far. They are from the Quilt Exhibit that is displayed with the Trade Show. Many of the quilts - some of my favorites - you cannot photograph - so here are some runner ups. Plus I have included the traveling display of the Fashion Show which was a yearly event and last year was the last one. I LOVE these dresses. I know the pictures with my camera phone aren't the best, but hopefully it will give you a glimpse of what you wouldn't normally get to see. Plus I had a request for pics of our of my customers booths, Creative Smocking which will be at the end. We aim to please. I'll take more pics today if possible. It's usually our biggest sales day so I might be too busy. I'll try to at least post in the morning the fabric finds I've purchased. If there is anything else, you'd like to see - post me a comment. I'll do my best.

<img style="display:block; We had a few items at school houses where Distributors, etc tell about their newest items - mostly ours were at Fabric Companies showing off their fabric and our patterns. So this has a few spots that aren't finished...but you get the idea. Also, I'll try to take some pictures of the quilts and fashions in the exhibit where permitted today and let you guys see those as well.

Later and enjoy!
<img style="display:block; Our flight was nice and even though it was no non-stop - we make a short stop in Chicago Midway to change planes - it seemed like a short but sweet flight.

We got in and went straight to the hotel to unload and then it was off to dinner Pittsburgh style. We ended up getting dropped off by our hotel at "The Incline". This is basically an old wooden trolley system that take you up the side of a cliff that runs along the "Three Rivers" that converge in Pittsburgh. This was a bit scarey for me as I'm afraid of heights but we made it up and it was a wonderful view of the city. Once at the top, we ate at Monterey Bay Grotto. This had to be the best seafood ever eaten. I had the lobster stuffed shrimp and bites of my friend Dian's crab cakes. WONDERFUL!!!!! It was definitely on the expensive side, but when works paying who cares, right?? The view was spectacular as well as the restaurant sat on the top floor of a high end apartment complex. NICE!!! I would definitely recommend this place if in Pittsburgh.

Wednesday was all about setting up the booth. We were so busy - no pictures of it really and the ones I took us us out the night before did not turn out well due to the darkness. I'll post them anyway. I only have my camera phone. My digital camera is out of commission thanks to my stupid lab Jack who chewed through the cord.

Today I will get pictures of the finished booth - including all the new patterns, fabrics, etc that are displayed. Over the next few days I will take some pictues of fabrics and patterns of others if they permit and get them posted. Tonight is sample spree - which basically is where 10,000 women come to buy our patterns in samples. In other words, this is there chance to buy single patterns instead of our regular minimums. This is a four hour mad house of flying patterns and cash. I can't even begin to guess how much money exchanges hands this night. It's where I spend all mine. I will be buying fabrics and patterns; vintage jewelry and more. Will post pics of these. I probably won't post more until Friday night because I won't be back to the hotel until after 11:00 pm tonight and since I'm starting at 8am I have a long day ahead. I'm definitely excited for today.

Bye for now!!!!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-47311735454169533662009-05-07T16:09:00.000-07:002009-05-07T17:02:21.595-07:00Fashionable FridaySo I'm going to start a new special Friday posting called Fashion Fridays. This post will contain new patterns, fabrics, or trends that I find online - sometimes I will include links to purchase said products (so lots of eBay and Etsy postings) - that I find interesting, beautiful or I just plain like.

I know it's Thursday, but I know I will be super busy tomorrow. I have two dresses and a top to make this weekend for the Quilt Market which I will leave for on Tuesday. I hope to post some exclusive pictures from the show in Pittsburgh - maybe even one with me in it!!! You might see new fabrics and designs that won't be available in stores until the Fall. It's a true sneak peek!!! Lucky you and lucky me. I love seeing all the new fabric lines, quilts and new patterns.

Okay so here's my pick for this Friday!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_dUrsxUhZXV7Pl5DIPM00e1YMwSATBb90QhnkmVIoHtnLFGs0VkxYI4q9VNsVOPVZK1UkunGzRgPxdgiKyka6zsTB4-81_-i3HsA2uCIvOsoTXTKLtDjQXLFDUq7soCdWWrTdr4-oi7wT/s320/amybutlerfabricfromfabricssupplies.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333233985876685378" />

This fabric is from designer Amy Butler from her Belle line called Gothic Rose in Burgundy. It also comes in a beautiful turquoise. You can find it at lots of stores on eBay and Etsy.com so I didn't post a single link. Click here to view all of her Belle colors and fabrics. She is definitely one of my favorite designers of fabric for purses and clothing. While you're there check out Olive Lacework from her Lotus collection. I'm making Indygo Junctin's new pattern Audrey's Afternoon Dress out of this for the show. I'll definitely post pics of this one. I got the yardage for a steal on eBay.

Keep checking back this weekend for pics of the dresses and top I'm making for the show and next week for your exclusive pics from the International Quilt Market. Post some comments of what you'd like to see: new patterns, new fabrics, quilts, what's your request?

Later,
CherylCheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-68135644224699845622009-05-05T05:56:00.000-07:002009-05-05T06:00:37.554-07:00He's Growing Up Too FastSo today was the day. Today was the day that I realized my little "baby" was not a baby anymore, but a boy, little boy still, but a growing up boy. As I dropped him off in before school care he ran over to the little group of boys building with blocks that he always hangs with and as I came over to give him the same hug and kiss I've given him for 6.5 years good-bye - he said, "Mom maybe just a hug in front of the other boys."

I was crushed! I took him aside and said Let me give you a kiss over here where they won't see. He didn't like it but humored me. It was hard enough when he switched from Mommy to Mom about a year ago, but NO KISSES IN FRONT OF THE OTHER KIDS!! Next thing you know I'll have to drop him off a block away from school.

Now I can deal with the gray hair and the added weight and the creaking bones, but now I'm baby isn't a baby anymore. Tonight he's getting the lecture that you're never too old to kiss your mother...even if we have to do it in the car before we go in!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-45724674919789611942009-05-02T07:21:00.000-07:002009-05-02T07:32:53.938-07:00Anything But Paper Swap and New Patterns Now AvailableOkay after much debate and a phone call to my mom - of course - I finished my Anything but Paper ATC swap cards this morning. They are not exactly perfect but I did my best and they are made from my favorite Amy Butler fabric (which I used to make a great dress from the Dayshift Dress pattern from Indygo Junction - I'll post some pictures of that later).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 220px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw5xCFIfOFhPXpOYvUgbi2EM3XcuwyHfSojhNic6EhTUJhvtXkobVhZUEfLFvoLGAo4xeIi01pypLq6H5L_5LejMklBEj7rgZwcUkTKu2EwaPddriIxyem-AkJTQsdcDog2UynhRpTbGJt/s320/IMG_0160.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5331234217217977746" />

They are simple, but I like that about them. I guess I never figured how hard it would be to be creative on a deadline or maybe it's because the "theme" was too broad for me. I think if the theme was more specific and not just a materials limit I would have been more inspired. I don't know but since I have the big International Quilt Market trade show coming up in a week or so I had to get them done like now. I have too much to do at work to get ready for the show - although no sewing has to be done this weekend.

I did buy some fabric - also Amy Butler - on ebay this week which I will be using to make a dress/tunic/top out of this week. It's going to be out of one of my new Indygo Junction patterns - which are now available for viewing at the website just click on New Arrivals from the home page. I just put them up on Friday. They are not available for purchase yet, but you can see them. I'm thinking of making either the Audrey's Afternoon Dress (if I have enough fabric) or the top for the Boudoir Basics (plain sleeve version) making it longer and chinching it with a belt!!

Anyway, Maggie's Blanket update - still working on the lap blanket that is full of my memories. It will be the first donated blanket. I hope to really get this going after the show - so probably early June. Again, please email me at cpinkman3@kc.rr.com if you are interested in donating yarn, yarn scraps or knit/crocheting for the cause.

Thanks,
CherylCheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-56008251943016052712009-04-30T16:21:00.000-07:002009-04-30T16:41:38.729-07:00Cherish those Traditions - And the People Behind ThemSo this week the mother of one of my best friends died. She was 83 and he was the youngest of ten children. It really called to mind the importance of family and made me face the fact that we don't get to be with our loved ones forever. Peggy Wheeler was a great woman whom I only had the opportunity to meet a few times. I will always remember she was a great cook. She was a true matriarch of that family. It was so obvious that family meant everything to them - which has made it difficult this week for many people mourning her passing. Peggy reminded me of my grandmother - Maggie. She had that feisty attitude, she was proud and strong. My grandma was like that too. Well, that's how I remember her anyway. She told me on more than one occasion as a child I was "cruisin' for a bruisin'" and she always had things her way. She smoked til the day she died. But she was also sweet, accepting - sometimes too much so, sometimes family members seemed to do no wrong.

Grandma was very loving and she loved animals. Most of all I remember her telling me I was "special things" She told me I was her favorite...now let me assure you (especially those of you in my family) that I think she probably told this to more than one person. Every Christmas she would ask me "What'd I get you?" I knew she gave mom and dad money to buy my present so it really was a valid question - but it's still one of my favorite inside jokes in my family. She told me I had a handsome husband - she'd lean over and whisper in my ear...now your married to that handsome fellow right? She had a hard time remembering things near the end of her life. I didn't get to see her right before she died and I'm kind of glad because I get to remember her from all the other moments and not the sick ones, the Alzheimer's ones. I remember her just as she looks in the picture below.

I wanted to share a picture of grandma - Maggie - which btw is not what I called her - I always called her Grandma Woods (even after she was remarried). It's one of her last and is with a cat she loved that belonged to my aunt Ruth. I love this picture. Grandma - I miss you and I want you to know that I loved you and I will work very hard to make Maggie's Blankets into something you would be proud of.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 256px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6QGEdXlU9Sz66LDoj3v5_heyTbOkfJ3eJhuIMHqMoAv5HC2AwXWAD9obhn6oORuPAYxl4OlLFIJHG_JnaAda-ZwdgPvumos_6MwvoWnfPxt_zEqlHft0Rbr51jmo-2ARuKIX3pN7C-mtt/s320/grandmawoods.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330633446232061410" />

If you want to learn more about Maggie's Blankets, please email me at cpinkman3@kc.rr.com I'm collecting donations of yarn scraps to create blankets for the needy. I won't be official starting my "campaign" until end of May because I'm so busy at work getting ready for the big International Quilt Market Trade Show in Pittsburgh, PA. Check out my previous posts for more details.

Thanks!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-31532689546264355962009-04-26T17:55:00.000-07:002009-04-26T18:04:34.485-07:00God Moves in Mysterious WaysSo I've started on my first Maggie's Blanket using the scraps I have. It's funny that my first instinct was to not use some because I remember what I had used them for - the one I used to make a blanket for my boss for Christmas, the scraps from the blanket I made for my sister's baby when he was born, the blanket I made for my friend's wedding...I kept wanting to keep them and not use them - they were too "good". I kept reminding myself that this is for those who have nothing - what am I keeping these pieces for. It was as if God was trying to tell me to let go of the past and more forward - He has a purpose for me and my skills.

I sewed all weekend to work on the new kid's PJs pattern we are coming out with. It's totally different to make something for fun and to make something for money. Didn't like that feeling of sewing because I had to. I also worked on my ATC card swap Anything but Paper. I made the background out of linen fabric scraps with melted crayon bits on them, then I stamped them and used some micro-beads to create an Earth. I'm not totally have happy with them. I'm thinking of trying something a little more fabric scrappy. Not sure. This is turning out to be harder than expected.

Please pass on the word that I'm looking for yarn scrap donations. If anyone is interested in participating or donating (yarn only!!), please email me cpinkman3@kc.rr.com or leave me a comment. The more yarn I can get my hands on the more blankets we can make. I have another person working with me to knit/crochet up scraps to make blankets for the needy. If you would like to make some blankets for donation, that would be great too. I should soon have a group selected and get more information on where the blankets will go.

Thanks so much for all the encouragement. Please also feel free to pray for this mission of Maggie's Blankets and any church participation is appreciated and encouraged. Thanks!!!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-89829740275007835302009-04-22T17:08:00.000-07:002009-04-22T17:20:08.696-07:00Starting a Charity - My Earth Day WorkSo I've thought about doing this for years and since it's Earth Day I'm going to put this out there and see where it goes. I've always loved knitting and crocheting ever since my grandmother taught me. When you create something, just like in sewing you always end up with "scraps" of yarn - sometimes a lot and sometime a little - and like the fabric scraps I keep them all. I've always thought I'd figure out what to do with them.

I've finally figured it out - I'm going to knit or crochet them all together - whether they match or not - into blankets to donate to needy people. It's going into Spring and Summer here, but somewhere in the world people are cold and need a blanket. I know there are many people out there that have these scraps of yarn too! I want to put out the call to people to collect those scraps and hang on to them, stockpile them because I'm going to turn them into help for the ones who need it. I have the big trade show in mid May and will be way too busy to organize this until after that, but it's important to me to put these little scraps to good use.

I call this new (hopefully official non-profit group someday) Maggie's Blankets. Maggie was what many people called my grandmother - I never did, but I always loved hearing it - her name was actually Mary Magdalene. I have already collected many balls of yarn from my own projects, but I have also had many full balls of mismatched yarns from co-workers. I'm going to be working on my own blankets, but after the show i would love to coordinate a circle of women (and men!!) to knit or crochet blankets of all sizes, colors, and shapes to send to the needy. I'm going to contact my pastor at church because I know they work with mission groups around the world and might know of a specific need.

Maggie's Blankets are labors of love and it doesn't matter what colors or how many multi-colored and multi-textured yarns go into them. Warm is warm. This is for you Grandma - you taught me to be strong and use what I got - I'm going to do just that and pass it on. I miss her and I hope to keep her memory alive with this project. Won't you help me? Step 1 - collect that yarn and get others to do the same.

More to come. Please email me if you would like to get involved. Thanks!!!Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507271614096845685.post-15457943218850712062009-04-22T17:03:00.001-07:002009-04-22T17:08:20.749-07:00Here's what I've been up to today...So I left work early today to do some sewing for work. After six hours of sewing, I've finished my new project - another pattern test. I don't have any pictures of the finished product which is a super sweet modern take on the robe/house coat. I do however have some great pictures of the process and the fabulous Michael Miller fabrics I made it out of.

More to come...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqOiDhnMaViX96ostCnCW8UDG9bOpUSCRCeXGFCk13lkEVT43VI4WNS7yKhyphenhyphenjAA1ECHh6XchTzA-dmhvqOKXB0bWN8gq3OItg6hVme8baaCxJs_wPHwGd_aT3heHGVOkrQojevPQ8pdnvv/s320/IMG_0147.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327671285991811026" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhnEYCKy6LuKdvERgUvAP6B4XQSv9SVZZErsSEhs-wCCawznCOG9_iVliZdOGldY5afQTgOKXT67ToEg7gOjPJX8bHsuF8vCe5GdOrAbnKpddL62LSfEobUutmourKonmOeks2VOUG0Myg/s320/IMG_0149.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327671612981860498" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwKke1Ldi3btVFkoaVDp1OKhZ-qKMnvSG1mYapx3k5Oooshg8B7j6dUhMBQ3pxT4LyIigx850eQZxg0ihp3iz7XOIcbzY6Zvf7LOKA5TZsa-MGqXX1-kvsmJuMjyK_xomp3kNY6DO1OmCQ/s320/IMG_0150.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327671742654429650" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF4GQOTPchjl7A1frc1nY4-Snw0_bIgO0THYzMnVHly3Z5ptWyFQB-K3vjfG3BaQUczC4kx5edNqEsE_QCqR9n9OqY4visD2QBDk17MIeisxqmYb0rAcT0UVwaOnZVeiaTXKfDlxJJ-xGo/s320/IMG_0151.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327671870563618130" />Cheryl Pinkmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13623456729118722753noreply@blogger.com0
